PROJECT ENGINEER
Facts:
Kassel & Associates is a mid-size general contractor specializing in hard bid public works construction, primarily K-12 new build and renovation though we have built libraries, prisons/jails, 911 centers, Water and Sewer District buildings/projects, seismic upgrades, Parks and everything in between that involves a building to some extent or other. We work in the Puget Sound primarily within a 100 mile radius of our Redmond office. Every project is unique and brings its own specific challenges and rewards. We are looking for a Project Engineer interested in working on these exciting projects to join our team!
A little bit about you:
-
You have strong communication skills with subs and vendors, owners and architects. You keep on top of your e-mail but have the ability to recognize critical tasks and pick up the phone when needs be instead of sending unanswered e-mails when it is required to get the job done.
-
You are a results driven PE with the ability to guide and lead with honey or a stick and get the job done no matter what.
-
You understand that without those skilled Carpenters and tradespeople that actually build stuff your position does not exist. You appreciate craftsmen and the know-how and intensity that a good Superintendent brings to the table and you are all about partnering with your Super to keep materials flowing, draws and changes coming in so his subs are happy to be on the job. You are based at the site as a rule and walk with Super to see first hand what’s happening where you can help the project succeed in a safe, quality and timely way.
-
You know how to find that happy medium between the essential one on one time with your team members and computer time cranking out paperwork.
-
You work closely with Architects and owners reps on issues, RFI’s, Submittals, and changes required for the project.
-
You know enough to be dangerous about a lot of the work, probably not as much as your Super or PM, but enough to smell BS. Or maybe you don’t, YET but you’re willing to work hard and learn. We can definitely work with that!
-
You secure bids from sub and suppliers for open items in the budget as needed, verify bids for scope inclusions, exclusions, or gaps against project plans and specifications and help the PM write sub and materials contracts and Purchase Orders.
-
You might be proficient at creating your own CPM in P6 or MS Project. At a minimum you are willing to learn how to read a schedule and identify the critical path, verifying logic and float, etc. in order to work closely with a scheduler and your Superintendent and PM to develop, update and maintain the project schedule
-
Prepare Submittals and follow up on them early and often to ensure that submittals are being processed in a timely manner to lay the foundation for Project Success, this is the primary role of a successful Project Engineer.

You’re pretty smart, and not just book smart:
Education: Bachelor’s degree at a 4-year university or college in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering or a related field is desired. A combination of a Bachelor’s degree and related work experience will also be considered in lieu of related field degree.

Experience: Two or more years of experience as a Project Engineer for a general contractor in a similar sector will get you on the higher end of the scale to start, but if you are brand new we like that too, we can teach you, and you will grow and learn.

Software Skills Preferred: BlueBeam, P6, Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project

Money and Benefits (we do this for money after all):
-
Salary competitive, commensurate with experience. Starting at $65k/yr and up to $110K based on experience.
-
Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance, 401K with matching
-
Eligible for annual company performance bonuses (no Jelly of the Month Club)
-
Company Phone
-
3 weeks personal time off plus 1.5 weeks of holidays
-
Flexible work environment- we’re about results, not punching a clock. If you’re whistle bit we may not be a fit. If you get your work done and you want to get out and play, go to a family event, whatever (within reason) we support that. Work life balance is crucial for our mutual success.
