Briarcrest Elementary School Modernization Project

Project Description: Briarcrest Elementary is an existing school located in the Briarcrest neighborhood in SE Shoreline. The original school was built in 1954 and has had renovations and/or additions in1960, 1985, 1999 and 2001. The school serves neighborhood families and students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. The proposed project includes upgrades to aging building systems and restrooms to bring the school up to standard with current district facility expectations. No exterior modifications are proposed except those associated directly with the mechanical system improvements. Proposed work includes mechanical and plumbing system upgrades; restroom finish upgrades, accessibility upgrades and reconfiguration for inclusive toilet options; fire sprinklers and fire alarm upgrades (under separate permit); lighting and electrical upgrades (under separate permit). Site work is limited to exterior pad mounted equipment and fencing associated with the mechanical system work. Seismic improvements may be included on a voluntary basis. The school will be vacated for construction; students and staff will be temporarily located at the district's North City facility for the 2023-2024 school year.
